Jack the Mannequin 1

Meet Jack, Jack the Mannequin.

One day,
Jack stumbled upon Love.
The Love was crumpled,
a bit smudged,
and with rather more than a
few frayed edges.
He leaned over to pick it up.
But try as he might,
his wooden fist would not reach down to the ground.
I have metal in my joints,
and in my heart, Jack said
and he knew that the Love was not meant
for him and he straightened
and stared at the Love next to his feet.
And although it was only a palms width away,
it may as well have been
on the moon,
or in the ocean,
or in the eyes of a stranger,
and Jack wondered, who
decided it was fair to build a wooden boy
who could only see the Love
when someone else snatched it up?
